Day 9 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, trip to the Canary Islands, 21st January 2026

View of our cabin window at sunrise as the Ambition enters Tenerife Harbour.
We go to gym, dailyJ for me and Michaels routine that always finishes before mine. Breakfast of fresh fruit, it delicious. 2 types of melon, watermelon, pineapple and grapefruit. Followed by yogurt and overnight oats, soaked prunes some nuts and tea. Michaels breakfast usually starts with cornflakes, cold meat, cheeses and smoked fish with a croissant, butter and jam.
Looking at our options for the day, we find details of the old town of Tenerife and get there by taking a tram.  It is an UNESCO-listed town, called San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
Walking from the ship to the tram, such a well designed waterfront with pedestrian, bike and vehicle paths.
The tram cost euro1.35 each for 1 way which once again is very affordable compared to Tilbury. Took us 21 stations to get to the Old Town. I went to Information, got a map and we sat down to a coffee. A large Cappuccino that was unfortunately cold.
The buildings are beautiful and you walk down a street, turn and there is another tower or monastery or castle. Again the balconies are beautiful and the buildings facades carefully crafted in either wood or volcanic stone with colorful sides in reds, yellows and blues.
Michael bought me the most amazing jersey
Each house has been turned into a museum most donated by their original owners.
Inside the houses seem very similar, a courtyard with a first floor that has balconies into the courtyard, beautiful staircases and many different spanish style tiling.
