The church next to the orphanage where Vivaldi worked is the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà, also known simply as the Church of the Pietà.
We walked from San Marco square to the Church where Vivaldi worked.
Antonio Vivaldi served as a violin teacher and music director at the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for abandoned and orphaned girls that was famous for its musical program.
A new building: The current church, with its distinctive classical facade, was built between 1745 and 1760. This was actually after Vivaldi's death in 1741, though many still refer to it as "Vivaldi's Church".
The famous facade was not completed until 1906, based on the original architect's design.
The orphanage's talented female orchestra and choir performed Vivaldi's compositions from the elegant choir lofts, which you can still see inside.
Today, concerts are still held in the church, making it possible for us to experience the music in the very space where Vivaldi's works were first performed.
