Trip to Cyprus Sunday 12th to 14th October 2025

We left St Francis Bay at 05:30 on Sunday 12th of October and travelled to Cape Town stopping in De Rust for breakfast. Met up with Charles, Jen, Greg and Debbie. Jen and Debbie had run the Meiringspoort 21 the previous day.

We arrived in Cape Town and had dinner with Andrew, Amy, Holly and Terrance. Delicious portuguese peri, peri chicken, livers, prawns, sardines, calamari, rice and chips. Best takeout food we have had in a long while. We stayed in Terrance flat and had breakfast with him before taking an uber to the airport.

An uneventful journey with a 9 hour flight to Doha, 9 hours layover and 3.5 hrs flight to Cyprus. Michael and I were on separate lines to get to customs. Eventually Michael finished and we collected our luggage and paid Airport shuttle 24 Euro to take us to the Nicholas Colour Hotel. They dropped us off around 1 km from the hotel. Was worth so worth it compared to the taxi charge of between 55 and 75 Euro.

Doha never disappoints, efficient service with everyone very friendly. Even though the 9 hour layover was long, we always find things to keep us busy. Walking the airport from end to end to find the best air-conditioned areas to sit down and catch a few minutes of sleep being a preferred pastime. Starbucks chocolate frappuccino for Michael and a Matcha tea for me kept us awake for long enough to make it through the gate and to the next airplane.

We had dinner at a traditional Cypriot restaurant, what a lovely meal of  Slovakia in pita bread.

Trying the 2 local beers Keo and Leon. Both largers and very tasty.
