A trip that has been long in planning. We should have walked Hadrian's wall in June 2020. BA cancelled flights so after 4hrs of telephone conversations with TravelStart, we can leave from Johannesburg. A long drive to Johannesburg, stopped in Cradock for breakfast at the wimpy. Lots of memories of rugby games - Jbay primary against Marlo. Continued to Heidelberg where Adriaan drove us to the airport in the Porsche. I am sure he will agree it is not an intuitive car to drive. We were both so glad he was driving. Passing broken robots, potholes, thick smog, cars broken down and people having conversations on off-ramps. Harrowing to drive that road at night. We arrived safe at Johannesburg international and checked in for our 14hr flight to Newcastle via Amsterdam.
Great flight and good food with no nonsense KLM Alison, it's no longer 'would you like beef, fish or veg', just 'would you like to eat' lovely veg noodles and breakfast was 'sweet or savoury'. You would never believe COVID ever existed. No masks required on the planes all protocols are voluntary.
A pleasure to fly. So nice to be able to do so again!!
