There were some interesting photos submitted by many of the guests which we got to see. A German passenger won with a picture of the 7 sisters mountain range reflected on the water. Great picture!!

Crossing the Arctic Circle - back into civilization 02 October 2022
A ceremony to cross back from the Arctic circle into civilization. Included cod liver oil on a spoon that we kept as a memento of the journey from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. Michael and I celebrated with champagne on the deck and hopefully his taste buds may have moved on from JC Le Roux to a drier Champagne.

Horse riding excursion - Svolvaer - 01 October 2022
We got off the ship at Svolvaer, sun still visible in the horizon. We got on a small bus and drove to a farm in the Lofoten islands.
Stunning scenery as multiple of these islands connected by bridges come into view.
We arrive at the farm and Michael got a black horse called Musteur and I got a white one called Mist. Very obedient arctic horses, a little smaller to what we are used to seeing. Wonderful trail through pitch black areas, up down, around and then the beach only around 125 metres but so beautiful. Norwegians seem to love the outdoors as many were in their vehicles which doubled up as motor homes, fires outside but well kitted out. Tv's could be seen through the motorhomes windows.
The Northern lights made an appearance though faint, they were there.
Many horses, all named and well looked after. Two ladies led us, one riding and the other walking. We then drove back to the ship and boarded the shop at the next port of Stamsund. After some coffee we finally went to sleep around midnight after a really awesome day and night!
What a beautiful experience for a 59 birthday celebration, very grateful and blessed.
Sea Birds and floating fish - on the way to Svolvaer - 01 October 2022
We were watching for the seabird excursion boat to come alongside the Hurtigruten to transfer the passengers while both boats maintained the same speed. Very well done.
The crew on board syringe air into the fish and throw them out to the birds. If the fish land in the water, they float making it easier for the birds to get all the fish.

Sortland - 1st Birthday Stop, half hour - 01 October 2022
Sortland is a town and the administrative centre of Sortland Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The town is located on the east coast of the island of LangΓΈya, along the Sortlandsundet strait. Located on the islands of LangΓΈya and HinnΓΈya in the VesterΓ₯len archipelago which is further North than the Lofoten island archipelago the municipality surrounds the inner part of the Eidsfjorden and the Sortlandssundet strait. There are several bridges in the municipality. The Sortland Bridge is located just north of the town of Sortland and Hurtigruten cruise boat seems to just fit under the bridge with much funfair as the boat goes under the bridge.

Stokmarknes - 2nd Birthday Stop - an hour - 01 October 2022
We are getting off the boat 3 times today, once for half an hour at Sortland, and then just for an hour between 14:15 and 15:15 Stokmarknes - we are going through the different places very quickly but tonight, dinner is at 17:30 and at 18:30 after which we will be taken on the bus to the Lofoten islands to go on a horse ride hopefully graced by the Northern Lights.
